How do I fix the on-premise license server not starting after a Windows update?

Fix the issue when localhost:5054 is unreachable after a Windows update

After a Windows update, the on-premise license server might not automatically start. When this happens, opening localhost:5054 in your browser shows that the service is unavailable.

Steps to fix the issue

Follow these steps to restart the license server:

  1. Try to open localhost:5054 in a browser.
    • If the page is unreachable, continue with the following steps.
  2. Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.
  3. Type services.msc and select OK.
  4. In the Services window, find the Hololight service.
  5. Stop the service.
  6. Open your Hololight License Server Package folder.
  7. Delete the file rlm.pw (this file stores the password).
  8. Return to the Services window and restart the Hololight service.
  9. Open localhost:5054 again in a browser.
  10. Log in with:
    • Username: admin
    • Password: admin
After logging in, change the default password in the Reprise License Manager.

Result

After completing these steps, the Hololight license server should be running again and localhost:5054 should be accessible.
